In 1975 he finished his Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Nassau County Medical Center of State University of New York.

Dr. Ellenbogen is a member of the American Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Society, the American Society of Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a clinical instructor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California.

Additionally, Dr. Ellenbogen is a two time recipient of the American Medical Association Physicians Recognition Award.
